Poetry Theme Day

Poetry Theme Day

On Monday, May 7th, we celebrated all things poetry with our annual theme day.  As a school we celebrated Poetry Theme Day with decorations throughout the school, many poetry related centers, a poetry assembly, and even a special snack!

In the days leading up to Poetry Theme Day, our class practiced reading poems in class and even ones we brought from home.  We practiced visualizing these poems in our brains, because that is something all good readers do!

On Poetry Theme Day, the morning class got to try writing their very own acrostic poems with students from the high school and the afternoon students got to go to a poetry museum where they practiced writing describing words for the items they saw!

Both classes had the opportunity to see an amazing show called "Haiku, Hip Hop, and Hot Dogs,"  by the Crabtree Theater Group.  We learned all about different kinds of poems and how fun poetry can be!

We even got to participate in a poetry reading at a pretend coffee house like the "hep cats" we are!  We got lots of snaps and claps when we finished.

We love poetry!

The Zoo!

Kindergarten Class Trip to the Turtle Back Zoo

Although our Rain Date turned into a rainy day, we all had a FABULOUS time on our class trip to the Turtle Back Zoo in Essex County, NJ!  I would like to say a special thanks to the wonderful parents who volunteered their time to trudge around in the rain and supervise the children.  As you can see below, we all had a great time running around, seeing the animals, pretending to be prairie dogs, and playing!  We also learned a lot about animals and their natural habitats!

We got to see so many cool animals, like the toucan, the largest rodent in the world, the eagle, the yak, the bison, the cougar, the jaguar, some bears, and wolves (to name a few)!
