Writer’s Workshop

We Love Writer's Workshop!

We use Lucy Calkin’s Writer’s Workshop.  Each year kids love to write and can’t wait for Writer’s Workshop time.  This year we are so excited to be piloting the newest version of the Writer’s Workshop Units of Study!  For more information, click on the link below:

We began the year setting up the routines and procedures so children would know what is expected of them during Writer’s Workshop and how to be successful.

Check out some of the teaching books we wrote!

Now we are working on Unit 2: Looking Closely: Observing, Labeling, and Listing Like Scientists.  During this Unit, we will study trees like scientists!  We will observe them and their parts in the real world by going on scientist walks and collecting artifacts.  We will also take our scientist notebooks on these walks to record our observations.  We will read books called Mentor Texts to help us learn about trees and how to write like scientists.  Finally we will put all of our knowledge we have collected and the use all of the resources we have gathered to help us write our own books about trees!
